Abram’s Separation From Lot: You Can’t Take Everyone With You

Abram had been traveling from land to land with his family and Lot looking for a place to settle. This time Abram went UP to Egypt. Originally, God told him to go UP to Egypt but Abram disobeyed and did his own thing and went DOWN to Egypt His first trip to Egypt he faced many obstacles, because he didn’t obey the first time.

When Abram first settled in Bethel, there was not enough land to support both Abramand Lot’s livestock while they were together. because their possesions were so great. This caused conflict among them over the land. To prevent their conflict, Abram let Lot choose what part of the land he wanted first. Lot choose the fertile part of the land that would help his livestock. Even with Lot choosing the fertile land, the Lord blessed Abram exceedingly and abundantly by giving far more land than he asked and telling him “I will make your offspring like the dust of the Earth, so if anyone could count the dust, your offspring would be counted.” This is all because Abram OBEYED God. You have to trust God and not lean to your own understanding.
