October 9th Class Summary
Genesis 17
A Testing of Our Faith
“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.”
blameless means- without fault, the purity of your heart, not putting ourselves in situations to be blamed
God made a covenant with Abram that he will be the father of many nations. Abram and Sarai waited 25 years for there blessing. Abram was 99 when God made the covenant. And God kept coming back to reassure them that their blessing was coming throughout their wait.
When we are waiting for our blessings we have to still believe. It’s a reason God makes us wait for our blessings. We are being equipped for them. You don’t want to rush your blessing that is half done. You want a full blessing. We wouldn’t eat a cake that isn’t fully baked!
God told him that his name will be Abraham instead of Abram because he is will be the father of many lands. He also said Sarai’s name will be Sarah and she will be blessed with a child.
In the covenant when God told Abraham to circumcise himself and all the men 8 days after birth, it was a sign of cleanliness. Meaning a pure and clean heart. “cleaning the foreskin of the heart” This is why God told him to be “blameless.”
God gave Abraham and Sarah a son at the ages of 100 and 90! And confirmed that Abraham’s son Ishmael will still be blessed even though he was born out of wedlock.
We have to be patient and let God be Him. Gods is never going to leave us or forsake us so when we are waiting for our blessing to come we have to appreciate and enjoy the journey to our blessing instead of focusing on getting to the blessing.”
