June 19th Class Summary
Genesis 13 Continued
Be Careful of the Entitled Spirit
When Abraham and Lot were separating and Lot had to choose his portion of land, it showed Lot’s true character and heart posture when he chose the fertile land over the other when Abraham gave him the choice of choosing first. Abraham went out of his way to bring Lot along the way with him when God told him not to bring Lot at all. Lot should have humbled himself and accepted that he would be blessed by God regardless of the land he chose, simply for walking with Abraham. In order to stay in a humble place you have to sacrifice your personal gain for the benefit of others.
Lot did not know there would be consequences and his faith would be tested for being selfish and choosing the fertile land. Even when you think you are making the best decisions based off of your entitlement, you are stepping out of alignment with God. It is important to ask God first, “What do You want me to do?” And put your flesh on the back burn.
Check Your Heart Posture
It is best to stay low over high. Abraham letting Lot choose his land first regardless of everything he had done for him showed how truly humble Abraham was. God blessed Abraham regardless of him having the less fertile land because of his true character and heart posture. If we have a good heart posture, God will continue to bless us.
Building Altars
God told Abraham to build an altar. We build altars without even knowing. Some are good and some are bad. We need to pray for discernment on these altars we are building before the Lord. What altars should not exist anymore and what altars should we focus on.
